For the Horchata
- 1 cup white rice
- 4 cups water
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup condensed milk or sweetened milk alternative
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Iced Coffee
- 2 cups brewed coffee cooled
- Ice cubes
- Ground cinnamon for garnish
Make the Horchata
Rinse the rice under cold water to remove excess starch.
Tip: Rinsing helps achieve a smoother texture.
In a blender, combine the rice, water, and ground cinnamon. Blend until the rice becomes finely ground, about 1-2 minutes. Allow the mixture to sit for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors meld.
Strain the Mixture
Using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth, strain the rice mixture into a large bowl, discarding the solids.
Tip: Press down on the solids to extract as much liquid as possible.
Stir in the condensed milk and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
Prepare the Coffee
Brew your coffee using your preferred method, then let it cool.
Tip: For added flavor, consider using a dark roast or flavored coffee.
Combine and Serve
In a glass filled with ice, pour in equal parts of the horchata and coffee. Stir gently to combine.
Tip: Adjust the ratio of horchata to coffee based on your sweetness preference.
Sprinkle a pinch of ground cinnamon on top for a lovely finish.
