Equipment

  • Blender
  • Small saucepan
  • Espresso machine or coffee maker
  • Whisk or frother
  • Measuring cups

Ingredients

For the Pistachio Syrup

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup shelled pistachios
  • 1 cup sugar (or adjust to taste)

For the Latte

  • 2 cups milk (any variety: dairy or non-dairy)
  • 1 cup brewed espresso (or strong coffee)
  • Whipped cream (optional, for topping)
  • Chopped pistachios (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Pistachio Syrup

  • Start by blending the shelled pistachios with water until smooth. This will create a lovely pistachio paste.
  • Tip: Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve to remove any solids for a silky syrup.
  • Combine the pistachio paste with sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely. Remove from heat and let it cool.

Brew the Espresso

  • Brew your espresso or strong coffee. The robust flavor acts as the perfect foundation for this latte.
  • Tip: If you don't have an espresso machine, a French press can also deliver a strong coffee experience.

Froth the Milk

  • In a small saucepan, heat the milk gently without boiling. Once warmed, use a whisk or frother to froth the milk until it’s creamy and smooth.
  • Tip: For a fun twist, try using flavored or alternative milks like almond or oat.

Assemble the Latte

  • In a large glass, add 2-3 tablespoons of the homemade pistachio syrup. Pour in the espresso, then gently add the frothed milk, allowing it to flow over the espresso.

Garnish and Serve

  • Top with whipped cream if desired and sprinkle with chopped pistachios for an added crunch and visual appeal.
